"The Americans in raising this issue (a pre-emptive action in Iraq) are not wrong, they are right; and the reason why our place is beside them ... is not because of some misplaced allegiance or because of blind loyalty, it is because it's the right thing to do." Tony Blair, 3-9-2002
"The right course is of respect to the security and rights of others, through dealing with others in peace and establishing the obligations required by way of equitable dialogue and on the basis of international law and international covenants." Saddam Hussein
Analyzing the situation in very simple terms, LaRouche points to the fact that Europe, Asia, and their adjoining islands are moving at very high speed towards a step-by-step economic cooperation, with a view to initiating a process of economic recovery that would save the two continents from the financial collapse threatening them. This would necessarily mean that the two continents would unite to form one mighty economic force. There are, however, certain people such as Kissinger, Perle, Brzezinski, and Wolfowitz, who think differently, having in mind that such cooperation between continents would represent a threat to the cabal of plutocrats and influential people in the United States, Britain, and Israel, as well as to that cabal's control over the world.
Thus, the only solution to which they would subscribe, is to prevent such cooperation, breaking it up where it exists and putting an end to the recovery. How? By waging wars!
It is to be noted that Britain succeeded to wage two world wars, into which it drew the United States, for exactly such reasons in the past. Speaking of "British brains and American brawn," LaRouche considers Britain the mastermind behind all these machinations.
He further notes that the war into which we are being plunged, is a Third World War, which may last for a 100 years.
Israel's role in it, is to wage a religious war in the Middle East. But Israel cannot conduct such a war alone. While it has the military power, it cannot hold the territory it occupies. So, it would resort to using weapons of mass destruction, and that would be sufficient to kindle the flames of a Third World War.
LaRouche therefore urges us to resist those crazy people who are leading the world to annihilation. He holds that the only viable option is to cooperate with all the peoples of the world, with a view to establishing permanent peace on the basis of a new economic system as was the case from 1945 to 1975, i.e., the period which witnessed the successful implementation of the process of world economic reform which had been initiated by Roosevelt.
WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES
CALLS ON USA TO CEASE HOSTILITY
The World Council of Churches has issued a statement calling on the United States of America to cease its campaign of hostility and threats against Iraq, claiming that it is worried about Washington’s policy to overthrow Saddam Hussein. The World Council of Churches also called on the USA’s allies to resist the temptation to join in an attack on Iraq, “a military attack against a sovereign State”, under the pretext of a war against terrorism.
The Council, which includes all the Christian Churches, except the Roman Catholic Church, calls for Iraq to abide by United Nations resolutions, to destroy all its weapons of mass destruction and to guarantee all the political, economic, social and cultural rights of its people.

President Hussein addresses letter to Iraqi people,
Arabs and all free-minded in the world
BAGHDAD, In the name of God the Most Merciful, the Most Gracious
Once more we say that if you want to gain victory you should start with yourself. Yes with yourself first and before any step to use the materials in the environment you control or you think you control…
And before you start to convince others on the possibility of victory, convince yourself and have faith of your victory to the extent of the ultimate certainty that no wind could shake and no power, after you depend on God, could sway or eliminate from your heart.
Victory is faith inside the hearts, and when it becomes a faith it becomes immune to all confusion created by surrounding matter including the kinds of weapons and technical means that your enemy has. And the negative media and fabricated news and psychological confusion created by the enemy, not the weakness around you, nor the enemy’s negative propaganda… It will not hurt you... God will Bless your faith.
Then a permanent feeling that God is near you, far from your enemy, strengthening your side, starting with yourself from within you and making your faith as a light that spreads to the hearts of others… Then the fire of your enemy will be extinguished and he will be in the dark unable to find his way to save himself from your victory upon him.
Ship of fools on a cruel sea, ship of fools sail away from me.
It was later than I thought when I first believed you,
Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools.
The bottles stand as empty, as they were filled before.
Time there was and plenty, but from that cup no more.
Though I could not caution all, I still might warn a few:
Don't lend your hand to raise no flag atop no ship of fools.
Ship of fools on a cruel sea, ship of fools sail away from me.
It was later than I thought, when I first believed you,
Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools.
Though I could not caution all
I still might warn a few
Don't lend your hand to raise no flag
Atop no ship of fools...
While Blair has claimed that Iraq has rebuilt its arsenal of "weapons of mass destruction", those who advise him know full well this is nonsense. And if Blair himself is not aware of this, this begs the question: what kind of prime minister is he?
They have read the evidence of Scott Ritter, who as senior United Nations weapons inspector in Iraq for seven years, is uniquely placed to assess how much of a danger the Iraqi regime represents.
RITTER, an American and international authority on weapons disarmament, personally led the inspections, investigations and destruction of Iraq's chemical and biological weapons programmes. On July 23, he said:
"There is no case for war. I say that, not as a pacifist, or someone who is afraid of war. I've been to war with the US Marine Corps. Moreover, I'm a card-carrying Republican, who voted for George W. Bush for president. More important, I believe in truth.
"The UN weapons inspectors enjoyed tremendous success in Iraq. By the end of our job, we ascertained a 90-95 per cent level of disarmament. Not because we took at face value what the Iraqis said. We went to Europe and scoured the countries that sold technology to Iraq until we found the company that had an invoice signed by an Iraqi official. We cross-checked every piece of equipment with serial numbers. That's why I can say that Iraq was 90-95 per cent disarmed. We confirmed that 96 per cent of Iraq's 98 missiles were destroyed.
"As for chemical weapons, even if Iraq had succeeded in hiding stocks of sarin and tabun nerve agents, these chemicals have a shelf life of five years; after that they deteriorate and become useless gunk."
Ritter does not deny that Iraq could have begun to reconstitute its weapons programmes. "But they would have to start from scratch because they don't have the factories any more, because we destroyed them (including the research and development plant). If they tried that, the evidence is readily detectable. The technology is available; if Iraq was producing chemical weapons today on any meaningful scale, we would have definitive proof to show, plain and simple; and there is none."
"It is not enough for journalists to see themselves as mere messengers without understanding the hidden agendas of the message and the myths that surround it." John Pilger
Lynne Cheney-Joe Lieberman Group Puts Out a Blacklist Common Dreams info
AN aggressive attack on freedom has been launched upon America's college campuses. Its perpetrators seek the elimination of ideas and activities that place Sept. 11 in historical context, or critique the so-called war on terrorism.
The offensive, spearheaded by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, a Washington-based group, threatens free speech, democratic debate and the integrity of higher education. In an incendiary report, "Defending Civilization: How Our Universities Are Failing America," the American Council claims that "colleges and university faculty have been the weak link in America's response" to Sept. 11. It also asserts that "when a nation's intellectuals are unwilling to defend its civilization, they give comfort to its adversaries."
The report documents 117 campus incidents as "evidence" of anti-Americanism. More than 40 professors are named, including the president of Wesleyan University, who suggested in an open letter that "disparities and injustices" in American society and the world can lead to hatred and violence.
Info: Lynne V. Cheney, the wife of Dick Cheney, founded the group and serves as its chairman. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, D-Conn., the Democratic candidate for vice president, sits on its board of advisors and is an active proponent of the group’s goals.
''It has a little of the whiff of McCarthyism,'' said Hugh Gusterson, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who is on the list for a comment he made at a campus peace rally. ''Imagine the real suffering and grief of people in other countries,'' the report quotes him as saying. ''The best way to begin a war on terrorism might be to look in the mirror.''
Culled from student newspapers, Web sites and the media, the list includes chants recited by students at peace rallies and poster slogans like ''Recycle plastic, not violence,'' as well as comments made by scholars in public debates.
To the report's authors, such statements are proof that an oppressive anti-American ideology has taken over on campuses.
''We're criticizing the dominant campus orthodoxy that so often finds that America and Western civilization are the source of the world's ills,'' said Anne D. Neal, vice president of the council and a co-author of the report. (New York Times Info)
Sharon sees chance for diplomatic breakthrough in conflict
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Wednesday that he was holding talks with Palestinian officials and expressed optimism about the possibility of achieving an agreement with the Palestinian Authority.
"Now, for the first time, I see an opportunity for a break through in a diplomatic arrangement. It won't be an easy thing, but there is such a possibility," said Sharon, speaking in an interview to Channel Two Television. "The Palestinians have arrived at the conclusion that nothing can be achieved using terror."
A senior Palestinian official later called Sharon's remark "nonsense", saying any diplomatic breakthrough was being thwarted by Israel's harsh military clampdown on Palestinian cities in response to the uprising for independence. (Ha'aretz, 4-9-2002)
Arafat says he accepts EU peace plan 'in principle'
Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat told Danish Foreign Minister Per Stig Moeller on Wednesday that he accepted "in principle" the new European Union initiative for peace in the Middle East.
The EU initiative presented by the Danish government, the current president of the Union, talks about creation of a Palestinian state, initially without recognized borders, to be followed by a full fledged state within three years.
Moeller said he was "encouraged" by Arafat's "positive acceptance of the ideas," which he said aim at "putting the peace process back on track." "If we succeed, it will be your success," Moeller told Arafat.
Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said after the Arafat-Moeller meeting that "we have nothing to fear from the European initiative. "We will study it and then we will give our answer. But what is important is that it should have a mechanism for implementation and a timetable. (Ha'aretz, 4-9-2002)
Tikkun olam is Judaism envisioning an ideal world. Often translated to mean ‘repair of the world’, and even as social justice, tikkun olam underpins our religious way of life and perspective that works towards a time of peace – not just ending war, but a time of prosperity, health and justice for all. For Reform Jews the importance of working individually and collectively towards a better and redeemed world is vital to our understanding of what being active Jews means.
[Iranian] President Mohammad Khatami reiterated mankinds need for dialogue more than ever before, pointing out that selfishness and non-recognition of others are the most important obstacles hindering the approach to dialogue.
During a meeting with officials and professors of the American Seton Hall New Jersey University, President Khatami said terrorism knows neither geography nor nationality and is a phenomenon which comes into being as an outcome of scorning peoples and oppressing them. He stressed the necessity of combatting such ill and notorious phenomenon through fighting its causes and elements.
Khatami said the climate prevailing after the Sept. 11 events in the US has engulfed with violence and anger. It was expected following the events that the project of civilizations dialogue be maintained and the coalition for peace theory be reactivated, he said.
The Iranian President made clear that the West and the East as well as Christianity and Islam cannot deny one another and that efforts have to be unceasingly made to strengthen and propagate dialogue and co-existence.
Aziz meets Belgium Foreign Minister
Iraq News Agency, 5-9-2002
Deputy Prime Minister, Head of Iraqi delegation to the Summit of Sustained Development Tariq Aziz on Wednesday received Belgium Foreign Minister Louis Michel. The two sides discussed U.S threats against Iraq and the importance of adopting a fair stance by states of European Union to call for implementing the Security Council obligations towards Iraq and respecting international legitimacy.
For his part, the European Minister has underlined that his country and members of the EU would keep on exerting efforts to stop U.S threats against Iraq.
The Israeli government rejected a peace plan prepared by the European Union and presented to Israeli and Palestinian leaders by visiting Danish Foreign Minister Pier Muller.
The EU plan calls for establishing a tentative Palestinian state without recognized borders to be followed by intensive negotiations that would lead to full Palestinian statehood in three years.
Open letter from Saddam Hussein
to the peoples of the United States,
Western peoples and governments.
October 29, 2001
To concentrate not on what is important, but rather on what is the most important, we say again that after having seen that the flames of any fire can expand to cover all the world, it first and foremost, needs justice based on fairness.
The best and most sublime expression of this is in what we have learned from what God the Al Mighty ordered to be, or not to be.
If we disagree in the essence of this, then our criteria should be, that we should not prevent others from getting or enjoying what we want for ourselves, and that we should not adopt double standards, by giving others what we do not want or refuse for ourselves. Everybody must be aware that no one who has a fortune can be safe in the middle of a society of hungry people.
His problem would be greater if he had made his fortune by exploiting those hungry people, and at their expense.
The second Caliph in the state of Islam, Umar Ibin Alkhatab (God be pleased with him) ordered the suspension of the punishment of cutting the hand of a thief in the year of Remada (drought) despite the fact that this punishment in clearly stipulated in the Holy Quran. He did so, because he was aware, by his sense of a believer, the correct standards of Faith may be shaken when a man or his family are hungry, and also because he believed that hunger is more aggressive than the act of stealing, and that saving a man’s life was more important than saving somebody’s property. Hence, he froze a holy rule (Sharia).
Have the people of our present time learned this lesson, so that they can live in peace and security? Or do the parties concerned think that the security they want for themselves, will be achieved by amplifying the killing, intimidation, and starvation of others?! (Iraq News Agency, 5-9-2002)
Arab League: The gates of hell will open
Timothy BANCROFT-HINCHEY, Pravda 6-9-2002
The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, has issued a stark warning to the USA: Attacking Iraq “will open the gates of Hell”. He also called on Saddam Hussein to allow the UN weapons inspectors back.
He declared that the Arab League is in favour of the “total implementation” of the UN Security Council resolutions, which includes a return of the weapons inspectors to Baghdad. Amr Moussa made his declarations in a press conference in Cairo which was convoked among speculation that the USA is about to launch a military attack against Iraq.
"The unabated escalation we are seeing in the occupied Palestinian territories is clear evidence of the Israeli rejection of peace.
It is also evidence that the Israeli government is dealing with the Palestinian people and the Arabs in general from a perspective clouded by the arrogance of power."
The Arab League is a regional organization in the Arab world, which is located in Northern Africa, Western Africa, Eastern Africa, and Western Asia. The Arab League was formed in Cairo on 22 March 1945, initially with six members: Egypt, Iraq, Transjordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. Yemen joined as a member on 5 May 1945. Currently, the League has 22 members.

South African statesman Nelson Mandela urged Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres on Tuesday to consider allowing a six-nation commission to oversee the peace process in the Middle East.

Arab foreign ministers conclude
meetings on Iraq, Sudan and Palestine
ARABIC NEWS, 6-9-2002
The Syrian deputy prime minister and foreign minister Farouk al-Shara described the final decisions taken by the council of the Arab foreign ministers as positive and express the minimum for Arab solidarity "that we have been missing since a long time."
He stressed that all Arab foreign ministers stressed their rejection to any aggression against any Arab state especially on Iraq.
The Arab foreign ministers called for lifting the sanctions imposed on Iraq, welcoming the Iraqi initiative to strengthen dialogue with the UN so as to reach a comprehensive settlement provides for implementing all requirements of the UN Security Council resolutions concerned.
The Arab ministers also called for evacuating the Middle East from mass destruction weapons especially the elimination of the Israeli mass destruction weapons in its being a grave threat to the Arab national security and security and peace in the region and the world.
As for the Palestinian Intifada, the Arab foreign ministers stressed "exerting all Arab efforts to unmask all continued Israeli forms of aggression against the Palestinians including acts of killings and assassination, as well as detention."
They also stressed that the expulsion measures taken by the Israelis are considered a violation to all international norms on human rights and the fourth Geneva agreement for 1949 and are considered war crimes.
The Arab foreign ministers called on the US and Britain to reconsider the policy of providing Israel with weapons which are used against civilians and civilian targets.
Open Letter to Richard Celeste by Sadanand Nanjundiah
Counterpunch, 6-9-2002
Dear President Celeste and Colleagues on the Faculty of Colorado College,
I wish to commend you for inviting Dr. Hanan Ashrawi as one of the speakers to your symposium, "September 11:One Year Later", that is to take place on your campus shortly. Please stand steadfast and firm in your decision despite the concerted efforts of pro-Israeli groups to seek a reversal of your invitation to Dr. Ashrawi. It would be a blow to academic freedom, freedom of speech and the integrity of Colorado College to cave in in any manner or form to the demands of the blind and rabid Israel-supporters.
Hanan Ashrawi has the honesty and courage to speak out against all acts of terrorism, Israeli and Palestinian.
She has spearheaded a broad-based movement that calls for a peaceful and just resolution of the internecine conflict that has devastated Palestinian lives, property, health, living standards and hope infinitely more than the damage wrought to Israeli society.
She is a remarkable woman who has unhesitatingly spoken out against violence and corruption in the Palestinian Authority. In my view, there is not a more suitable person with experience, knowledge, compassion and spirit who can grace your symposium and provide the attendees with a meaningful and sensitive understanding of the root causes of terrorism.
Jimmy Carter Veroordeelt Amerikaans Midden-Oostenbeleid:
The Troubling New Face of America
Jimmy Carter, PalestineChronicle 6-9-2002
Our Government is abandoning any sponsorship of substantive negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis. Our apparent policy is to support almost every Israeli action in the Occupied Territories and to condemn and isolate the Palestinians as blanket targets of our war on terrorism, while Israeli settlements expand and Palestinian enclaves shrink.
There still seems to be a struggle within the Administration over defining a comprehensible Middle East policy. The President's clear commitments to honour key U.N. resolutions and to support the establishment of a Palestinian State have been substantially negated by statements of the Defence Secretary that in his lifetime "there will be some sort of an entity that will be established" and his reference to the "so-called occupation."
This indicates a radical departure from policies of every Administration since 1967, always based on the withdrawal of Israel from Occupied Territories and a genuine peace between Israelis and their neighbours.
Ariel Sharon's farm, Sycamore Farm (Sycamore of Shikmim = vijgenboom), is the largest private farm in Israel, a thousand acres near the desert town of Sederot, worked by laborer's from Thailand, (not Palestinians), and originally bought with the help of the Hollywood producer Meshulam Riklis.
Sharon feels his farm is physical evidence of Zionism in practice: "Zionism is physical.
Farming the land, holding the land, is Zionism. It means that we defend ourselves and our land. And if we give over any of it to a Palestinain state it must be in Israel's best interest. (Jeffrey Goldberg, 2001)
I ask him, don't the Palestinians love the land too?
"Yes," he says, "they love the land."
Does he respect that?
"I respect it. In point of fact, they are wonderful farmers." (Guardian 2001)
