Nimmer, van Erts tot Arend, was enig schepsel vrij onder de zon, noch de zon zelve, noch de gesternten. Maar Geest brak Wet en stelde op de geslagen bres de Mens. Uit die Eersteling daalden de ontelbaren. Duchtend zijn hoge blik deinsden hun zwermen binnen de Wet terug en werden volken en stonden elkander naar het leven: onder nachtgewolkten verward treurspel, dat Wereld heet. Sindsdien werd geen mens vrij dan ontboden van boven zijn dak, geen volk dan beheerst van boven zijn torens. Blijve dat ons bij, verlost als wij werden uit het schrikbewind van een onderwereld. Niet onbeheerst, doch enkel beheerst van boven de wereld blijft vrijheid ons deel.

Wie de bovenstaande tekst van de dichter Adriaan Roland Holst oppervlakkig leest zou de indruk kunnen krijgen dat het hier een quasi-religieuze tekst betreft, waarin de mens wordt opgeroepen zijn hoop op God te vestigen. Niets is minder waar. Adriaan Roland Holst was een mysticus die geen primitief godsgeloof verdedigde. Het is daarom goed zijn dichtwoorden, die nauwelijks door gewone mensen begrepen worden, te bekijken met behulp van een mystiek-astrologische bril, omdat die ogenschijnlijk niet-rationele bril ons een rationele, begrijpelijke duiding kan verschaffen.
Triskelion, Keltisch symbool voor land, zee en lucht De onderwereld is de Plutonische wereld van het dierlijk-wraakzuchtige principe, waar haat, woede en irrationele dierlijke driften het gedrag bepalen. Daarboven bevindt zich een wereld die gekenmerkt wordt door beheersing, de wereld van het Lucht-denken. Lucht verwijst binnen de symbolenwereld van de astrologie naar de drie intellectuele luchttekens Weegschaal (harmonie), Tweelingen (speels, beweeglijk intellect) en Waterman (de anarchistische denker die voor vrijheid en broederschap staat). Het zijn die drie tekens die in feite als symbool toegevoegd zouden moeten worden aan de tekst van Roland Holst. Omdat alleen dan de onbegrijpelijke tekst een zinvolle inhoud verkrijgt.

Hebron, stad van bloed en angst

‘Arabieren oprotten', ‘Mohammed is een homo', het staat in het Hebreeuws op muren in Hebron, een Palestijnse stad op de westelijke Jordaanoever. Een Palestijnse stad met 120.000 inwoners onder wie 400 joodse kolonisten. De kolonisten hebben opmerkelijk genoeg ook een citaat uit het Oude Testament op de muur gekalkt: ‘Liefde overwint vijandigheid'. Van liefde is echter geen sprake in Hebron. Integendeel de Palestijnen en kolonisten haten elkaar zo diep dat een explosie van geweld dreigt.

De kolonisten en hun in Hebron geboren kinderen zijn in de hogedrukpan van haat, bloed, bommen en angst paranoïde geworden. Niet alleen de Palestijnen maar ook Israëlische soldaten die de joodse wijk in Hebron dag en nacht bewaken, moeten de uitbarstingen van haat en verachting van de zijde van de kolonisten incasseren.
Soldaten worden bespuugd en voor nazi's uitgemaakt als zij kolonisten verhinderen om Palestijns bezit te verwoesten. Als het leger de Palestijnen weer eens een uitgaansverbod heeft opgelegd, zoals na de dood van een baby door een Palestijnse scherpschutter, dan trekken kolonisten als vandalen door de Palestijnse markt. Tijdens zo'n uitgangsverbod mogen de kolonisten gaan en staan waar ze willen, terwijl tienduizenden Palestijnen in het H2-gedeelte van Hebron hun huizen niet uitmogen. H2 staat onder Israëlisch gezag.
Kolonisten klimmen op daken van Palestijnse huizen en vernietigen de kwetsbare zonnecollectoren. Het zijn jongeren, kinderen vaak, die Palestijns bezit vandaliseren. Vrome meisjes in lange rokken uit de joodse wijk provoceren de soldaten tot het uiterste. Gillend proberen ze langs de soldaten de Palestijnse wijk te bereiken om mee te doen aan de verwoestingen.
De linkse oppositie in Israël eist vertrek van de joden in Hebron. Sharon heeft zich echter in de verkiezingscampagne en daarna vastgelegd op het standpunt dat er onder zijn bewind geen enkele nederzetting zal worden ontruimd. (NRC, weekkrant 9 april 2001)

portret van carel willink Adriaan Roland Holst werd op 23 mei 1888 geboren in Amsterdam, 's avonds rond 22u 30m (Zon in Tweeling, Ascendant in het teken Waterman, Maan in Schorpioen/dominant geplaatst in huis 10).
Roland Holst studeerde Engelse letteren en Keltische mythologie in Oxford. Kenmerkend voor zijn werk is de symbolische aard ervan. Hij wordt algemeen erkend als de prins der Nederlandse dichters en heeft talrijke prijzen en onderscheidingen gekregen.

De Kelten legden sterk de nadruk op individuele ontplooiing - iedereen moet datgene doen wat hij het beste kan. Ze erkenden de gelijkwaardigheid van man en vrouw. Een Witte Godin, de godin van de Maan, werd als moedersymbool gehanteerd. Opmerkelijk is dat in de horoscoop van Adriaan Roland Holst de Maan een dominante plaats inneemt.

Israel in de tijd van Jezus

Jesus with children - John Giuliani Religieus was het een woelige periode in Palestina. In Jeruzalem werd het leeuwendeel van de priesterlijke aristocratie gevormd door de Sadduceeën, die een aantal vertegenwoordigers in het Sanhedrin hadden, het hoogste bestuurlijke college in Jeruzalem. Zij waren religieus conservatief, beschouwden alleen de boeken van Mozes, de eerste vijf bijbelboeken, als gezaghebbend en geloofden niet in engelen en in een opstanding der doden. Hun voornaamste opponenten waren de Farizeeën, een religieuze stroming die, parallel aan de opmars van het joods nationalisme onder de Hasmoneeën, aan betekenis won. Zij hechtten niet alleen aan de vijf boeken van Mozes, maar ook aan de geschriften van profeten, dichters en wijsheidsleraren zoals deze zijn opgenomen in het huidige Oude Testament. Aan de boeken van de profeten ontleenden ze de verwachting van een ‘Koninkrijk van God' dat in de nabije toekomst zou aanbreken. Met deze opvattingen stonden de Farizeeën veel dichter bij het gewone volk.
Een groot deel van de vier evangeliën gaat over de confrontaties tussen Jezus en de Farizeeën.

Jezus heeft zich volgens de evangeliën nooit tegen de Romeinse bezetters gekeerd. Hij was werkzaam in Galilea, dat toen geen Romeins grondgebied was en ook niet door de Romeinen werd bestuurd, maar een eigen landvoogd had, Herodes Antipas, zoon van de al genoemde Herodes. Christenen: De Nieuwe Romeinse Machthebbers
een oud verhaal over de tegenstelling moderniteit-fundamentalisme

Het is uiterst merkwaardig om als objectief ingesteld (anarchistisch) schrijver, die het spirituele Christusprincipe wil ontdoen van de waanzinnige, irrationele machtscomponenten die er door zogenaamde volgelingen van Jezus aan werden toegevoegd, te ontdekken dat ondanks het feit dat men Jezus op een ronduit absurde wijze vergoddelijkt heeft en rondom zijn persoon een web van onzinnige theologische publicaties heeft gesponnen, waarop onschuldige mensen zich alleen maar dood mogen vliegen, men domweg niet de moeite wil nemen de situatie waarin Jezus leefde te vergelijken met de tijd waarin wij nu leven.
Jezus zat ingeklemd tussen twee machten: enerzijds de Romeinse macht, die de liberale moderniteit vertegenwoordigde, een macht die dus verplicht was Jezus, die het gezag van de keizer volledig accepteerde, te beschermen, en anderzijds een kliek godsdienstwaanzinnigen die op een merkwaardige, uiterst hypocriete wijze de macht van het Romeinse Imperium gebruikte om de eigen benepen doelstellingen na te streven.
De Farizeeën (mensen die het machtsprincipe boven het spirituele principe plaatsen) waren opportunisten. Ze verafschuwden de heidense, decadente Romeinen, maar ze aanbaden de Macht die de Romeinen bezaten en daarom werkten ze met hen samen vanuit de gedachte dat elke machtshandeling die in dienst stond van de Messiaanse heilverwachting goed was. "Je gebruikt", om het simpel uit te drukken, "de Romeinen en zodra je ze niet meer nodig hebt zet je ze aan de kant."
Compassionate Christ - John Giuliani Het is die mentaliteit die nu de rechtse joodse leiders in Israël en Amerika drijft. Men haat de Amerikaanse decadente democratie, die een verwijfd, antisemitisch gelijkheidsideaal verdedigt, maar men bewondert de kille, keiharde Macht en men probeert die geweldige macht in dienst te stellen van de Messiaanse heilsgedachte. Alles wat dat Messiaanse heilsstreven in de weg staat moet met behulp van brute macht uit de weg worden geruimd.
Dat is de reden waarom Jezus tweeduizend jaar geleden stierf aan het kruis. En daarom moet hij ook nu sterven, want een andere logica bezitten rechtse bloed- en bodemdenkers niet.
Dat het uitgerekend Amerikaanse christenen zijn die de rol van de Romeinse bezetter hebben overgenomen kan gezien worden als een cynische grap.
Jezus hangt aan het kruis en hij kijkt ironisch glimlachend de christenheid die hem verloochend heeft aan:
"Dus jullie zijn nu de Romeinse machthebbers die de moderniteit ter dood willen veroordelen, omdat jullie weigeren het extreemrechtse bloed- en bodemdenken af te wijzen...; zelfs Judas, de vriend die mij verraden heeft, is niet zo ver gegaan..."
En Jezus sluit de ogen, roept "Vader vergeef het hun want zij weten niet wat ze doen" en hij sterft. (Zwolle, 29-5-2002)

U.S. steps up Mideast activity

A new round of intense U.S.-led diplomatic activity over the Middle East begins today.
The diplomatic activity comes at a time when an intense debate is underway inside the U.S. administration about whether it is preferable for the U.S. to step up its profile and lay out a detailed framework and timetable for bringing Israel and the Palestinians together in negotiations leading to Bush's two-state "vision," or to maintain a lower profile focused on managing the ongoing crisis.
Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs William Burns arrives today for meetings with Sharon, Peres and Ben-Eliezer.
Over the weekend Burns will be joined by CIA Director George Tenet, who is coming for talks with both Israeli and Palestinian officials. His focus will be on restructuring the Palestinian security services, unifying the dozen existing forces into a much smaller number of forces under a unified command with strong civilian controls.
According to Israeli sources close to the administration, the U.S. now regards Mohammed Dahlan, head of the Palestinian Preventive Security forces in Gaza, as a leading candidate to head that new security structure. He was in Washington last week, as were intelligence chiefs from Israel, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, for meetings with Tenet. (Ha'aretz, 30-5-2002)

As usual, policy is set by the settlers

"Tell me, please, what am I supposed to do now?" the local Palestinian leader from the Bethlehem area asked the western diplomat. They were watching as a huge bulldozer dugs its teeth into the land of Beit Sahur, paving another road to bypass the Palestinians for the glory of the Israeli occupation. The road is particularly meant for the residents of Nokdim, the settlement that is home to MK Avigdor Lieberman. "What would you do in my place?" asked the Palestinian, a moderate who is far from being a proponent of violence. "Would you watch from the side as the settlers take your land, or would you shoot at the bulldozer?"

Anyone expecting Palestinians to quit killing settlers, should have a few words with Aziz Amaru, deputy minister for Waqf affairs in Hebron. Amaru has been spending the past several days running back and forth between the downtown wholesale market in the old city of Hebron and the local police station. All he wants is for the Israeli authorities to enforce the law against the settlers who have squatted in the shops of the wholesale market, which is property of the Muslim religious trust.
After Baruch Goldstein's 1994 Purim day massacre of praying Muslims in the Tomb of the Patriarchs, Israel ordered the shops of the wholesale market shuttered; since then, the shops, next to the Avraham Avinu Jewish neighborhood, have been closed. A few months ago, Hebron settlers took over one of the buildings and turned four shops into apartments and a kindergarten. In the past few days they've taken over four more shops in an adjacent building.
Amaru says the Waqf complied with the suggestion by the police that they weld the doors of the shops shut. Yesterday morning, settlers used force to chase off the welders and the police who were guarding them, and locked up the Waqf officials on the second floor of the building. Palestinian Hebronites are asking themselves if the police would have behaved with the same measure of restraint if it had been Palestinians marching into a Jewish-owned shop. (Akiva Eldar. Thank You Robert Fisk

Men of virtue and honor are a rare breed. When they are to be found it is often the sad fate of such beings to be misunderstood or at best ignored.
Yet these misfits of humanity are the source of all major changes in history even if few of them see the fruits of their sacrifice.

I would like to underline in this article a name on the list of Men of Virtue. The name is that of Robert Fisk, who has, without any doubt, sacrificed much for his honor and stood with courage in the face of intimidation and threats.
Robert Fisk is a journalist who has dedicated his life to defend the helpless and the downtrodden. He has frequently unmasked the tyrannies and hypocrisies of those who would otherwise be invisible were it not for men and women like him. In thanking Mr. Fisk, I also thank all the journalists who manage to move us and most important of all lift the veil on the ugly faces of tyranny were it just for a few seconds.

Dear Mr. Fisk, Thank you.. In the dwindling voice of justice in today’s world, you are among the loudest and are therefore the most maligned. If nothing else should console you, know that by your articles the least you do is keep hope alive for someone, somewhere, and that is a great achievement and a great responsibility. Bush Vertrouwt De Verkeerde Mensen

George Bush has repeatedly castigated Arafat as a leader who “has let the Palestinian people down. He hasn't delivered... I never trusted Arafat”.
George Bush bases his assessment on two false premises which are flatly rejected by experienced regional hands.

Firstly, Bush claims Arafat “had a chance to secure the peace as a result of the hard work of President Clinton, and he didn't”.
Even Clinton's chief adviser Dennis Ross admitted on March 31 that Arafat was offered “nothing” during the Camp David talks of July 2000. The deal Arafat might have accepted was taking shape during the negotiations at the Egyptian resort of Taba in January 2001.
These negotiations were suspended by the Israeli prime ministerial poll which brought Likud chief Ariel Sharon to power.

Second, Bush argues that Arafat has not done enough against “terrorism”. However, the State Department's annual report on “terrorism” reveals that Israel's military campaign against Arafat's security services and police seriously diminished his ability to counter attacks against Israelis.
What is significant about this report is that it covers 2001 and does not take into consideration the far greater damage inflicted on the Palestinian security services by Sharon's ongoing military offensive.

When asked about differences of opinion amongst his advisers, Bush tried to shrug them off, saying: “I get all sorts of advice.” However, his reliance on “disinformation” rather than the facts indicates that he is not prepared to seriously tackle Sharon on any issue. Who Has Really Impoverished and Frustrated the Palestinians?

At a time when even Jewish groups, along with hundreds of non-governmental organizations, are holding Tel Aviv responsible for all the misery in the Middle East, it is astonishing that Bush has ignored Israel's atrocities and placed all the blame on Yasser Arafat.

Half a Million Palestinians Need Food

The United Nations World Food Programme has launched an emergency operation to help feed about half a million non-refugee Palestinians no longer able to afford their basic needs amid dramatically deteriorating living conditions in the Palestinian Territories.
"Hunger and malnutrition are rapidly increasing among the Palestinians. Even when food is available in some of the markets, many impoverished Palestinians have become increasingly unable to meet all their food needs," said WFP Regional Director Khaled Adly who has recently visited the territories.
Before the latest fighting, the West Bank and Gaza Strip were already in a state of crisis with as many as 180,000 people having lost their jobs over the previous 18 months. "The latest Israeli military incursions have dealt a hard blow to an already vulnerable economy pushing many Palestinians into destitution," Adly said.

According to a recent World Bank study, up to 50% of the Palestinians in the Occupied Territories live under the poverty line, earning less than $2 a day per person. The Palestinian authority is no longer able to run social welfare programmes effectively. (World Food Program, 31-5-2002)

Matters of principle

If the Arabs were to advise the US, what courses of action would we suggest? For starters, the US government should ensure that it responds to the extraordinarily powerful Jewish minority in a more balanced manner. I can only imagine the turmoil that would accompany an open discussion in the US of this topic: the accusations of anti-Semitism, the charges of being soft on terror. Still, quite a few Americans are talking with unprecedented candour about the influence of the Jewish lobby on the US political system. Several Americans and Europeans have pointed out that freeing America from its undue influence would improve US relations with dozens of countries and millions of people in the Middle East and the Islamic world.

The United States should require Israel to abide by international norms. No other country is capable of this task, and no other country would benefit more from the outcome. As long as Israel clings to its belief that it should enjoy a special status, the Middle East will remain a powder-keg of hatred. Several Western leaders have already come to understand that Israel's behaviour is a major source of hatred between East and West.

The increasing incidence of governments using religion to bolster their legitimacy or keep the opposition at bay has, for some years, been a major cause for international tension. Religion, when it inspires foreign policy, causes severe, and sadly familiar, complications. This matter, sensitive as it is, requires tactful handling worldwide. Even in the United States, there is an obvious need to encourage the separation of state and religion. The Americans and Europeans have made a point of asking Arab and Muslim countries to tone down the religious element in their policy-making. It is only fair for the Arabs and Muslims to ask the West, particularly America, to do the same. (Gamil Mattar, Al-Ahram Weekly)

American Policy is not based on American public opinion

American policy may be based on notions of political realism or crude cost-benefit analyses made by various politicians. But it is most certainly not based on American public opinion. In fact, if President Bush were to come up with an even-handed initiative for a political settlement based on an Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories, and on the establishment of a viable and independent Palestinian state living in peace and security alongside Israel, he would find majority support among the American public. President Bush might also be able to reverse the tide of anti-American sentiment in the Middle East. (Fouad Moughrabi, Al-Ahram Weekly)

Commentaar: Hoe hard fanatieke rechtse joden ook schreeuwen dat we met onze kritiek op Israël antisemieten zijn, hun zinloze geschreeuw kan niet het feit maskeren dat in Amerika de democratie door rechtse joden wordt uitgehold en tot een bizarre, inhoudsloze schertsvertoning wordt gemaakt.
Natuurlijk, de middelmatigen, de hebzuchtige torren en padden die alleen maar dromen van de zegetocht van het joods-christelijke kapitalisme, zullen nooit iets merken van die uitholling. Zij willen de democratie niet verdedigen. Alles wat zij van ons eisen is dat we de stompzinnige onverdraagzaamheid een democratisch jasje aantrekken, zodat zij zichzelf rustig in een fascistisch bedje kunnen overgeven aan goede dromen.
Maar de democratie is geen goede droom. De democratie is harde werkelijkheid en zal daarom door realistische mensen verdedigd moeten worden.
Het is ronduit krankzinnig dat een paar rechtse fanatici via het hanteren van het wapen van de rijkdom en de morele terreur de democratie om zeep mogen brengen. Het gebruik van het woord 'antisemiet' zou daarom tot ridicule absurditeit moeten worden uitgeroepen. Iedereen die het nog waagt zijn buurman van antisemitisme te beschuldigen zou keihard uitgelachen moeten worden, zoals ook mensen moeten worden uitgelachen die anderen alleen maar op grond van 'het semiet zijn' willen veroordelen. Het gaat er niet om in een democratie je buurman de mond te snoeren op grond van irrationele motieven. Het gaat erom dat je naar de ander luistert en daarbij gebruik maakt van je verstand, omdat een democratie alleen maar kan functioneren wanneer mensen bereid zijn het verdraagzame verstand boven het onverdraagzame onverstand te plaatsen.

Gretta Duisenberg met de dood bedreigd

Gretta Duisenberg-Bedier de Prairie is per brief met de dood bedreigd. De politie neemt de zaak zeer serieus en heeft haar per direct laten beveiligen.
De echtgenote van Wim Duisenberg, president van de Europese Centrale Bank (ECB), kreeg gisteren een brief waarin zij als verdedigster van de Palestijnse zaak door het slijk wordt gehaald. Zes weken geleden hing Duisenberg de Palestijnse vlag uit aan het balkon van haar huis in Amsterdam. Na een ruzie daarover met de buren, volgde ook een strafklacht van de voorzitter van Federatief Joods Nederland wegens vermeende antisemitische uitspraken. Inmiddels is de vlag weer verwijderd. Arafat Offers Posts to Hamas

Yasser Arafat has offered Cabinet posts to Hamas and other militant groups involved in suicide attacks against Israelis as part of a government reshuffle he plans to announce in coming days, Palestinians said Sunday.
While three other radical groups have turned down the Palestinian leader's offer, saying they don't want to belong to a government that's willing to negotiate with Israel, Hamas is still weighing the proposal, the group said.
It would mark the first time in his eight years as chairman of the Palestinian Authority (news - web sites) that Arafat formally brought Hamas into government — a move likely to be strongly opposed by Israel and the United States, which both regard Hamas as a terrorist group.

Terror war must target 60 nations, says Bush

THE United States must be prepared to take the War on Terror to up to 60 countries if weapons of mass destruction are to be kept out of terrorists’ hands, President Bush said at the weekend. His impassioned speech to 1,000 graduates of West Point Military Academy in New York State on Saturday marks a watershed in the Administration’s foreign policy. Mr Bush said that terrorism cells in countries that make up close to one third of the globe must be actively sought and dismantled. “We must take that battle to the enemy, disrupt his plans and confront the worst threats before they emerge,” he said, adding that Americans must be “ready for pre-emptive action when necessary to defend our liberty and to defend our lives”. U.S. aid to Israel is higher now than twenty-five years ago. This was at a time when Egypt's massive and well-equipped armed forces threatened war; today, Israel has a longstanding peace treaty with Egypt and a large demilitarized and internationally monitored buffer zone keeping its army at a distance. At that time, Syria's military was expanding rapidly with advanced Soviet weaponry; today, Syria has made clear its willingness to live in peace with Israel in return for the occupied Golan Heights--and Syria's military capabilities have been declining, weakened by the collapse of its Soviet patron.
Also in the mid-1970s, Jordan still claimed the West Bank and stationed large numbers of troops along its lengthy border and the demarcation line with Israel; today, Jordan has signed a peace treaty and has established fully normalized relations. At that time, Iraq was embarking upon its vast program of militarization. Iraq's armed forces have since been devastated as a result of the Gulf War and subsequent international sanctions and monitoring. Het blijft een merkwaardige zaak dat een president die voortdurend hamert op het belang van rechtvaardigheid, niet in staat is een eind te maken aan het onrecht dat de Palestijnen wordt aangedaan.
Zestig landen moeten worden aangepakt. Allemaal machten van het kwaad, die het Amerika onmogelijk willen maken 'het recht' te verdedigen.
Je hoeft maar een enkele blik te slaan op de Westbank en de Gazastrook in Israel om in te zien dat het keihard bedrog is, waar rechts Amerika mee aan komt zetten. Democratie vecht voor democratische waarden. Democratie verdedigt nooit de terreur van tegen de democratie gerichte ideologieen.
Amerika is momenteel geen democratie. Een democratie is een intellectueel concept, bedacht en uitgevoerd door intellectuelen en daarom gebaseerd op een strikte scheiding tussen staat en ideologie (kerk, socialisme, zionisme en ga zo maar door).
Het Amerika zoals de rechtse christen George Bush dat ziet is in de eerste plaats een anti-intellectuele, rechts-christelijke staat met een Goddelijke opdracht: de vernietiging van 'het kwaad'. Daarom steunt hij (als rechtse christen) de antidemocratische staat Israel ook door dik en dun. Want de rechts-zionistische staat Israel (links zionisme bestaat niet meer in Israel - de idealistische kibbutzbeweging is morsdood), die de rechtse christenen op een uiterst hypocriete wijze gebruikt als bondgenoten in de strijd tegen opstandige Palestijnen, is ook een vijand van de democratie.
Pim Fortuyn: verdedig de moderniteit Scheiding van kerk en staat doorvoeren zou een einde maken aan het conflict in het Midden-Oosten. Zodra Amerika en Israel het besluit nemen niet langer de waanzin, maar de belangen van het volk te dienen zouden we van alle ellende af zijn. Nu sukkelen we voorwaarts in een wereld waarin rechtse generaals en kolonels ons leven willen bepalen.
Dapper roepen we dat we democraten zijn. Maar niemand beseft dat de primitieve, wrede machtdenkers in Israel en Amerika ons elke dag kleiner, onbeduidender en liefdelozer maken.
Als anarchistisch schrijver kan ik alleen maar opmerken dat hier een grootse taak ligt weggelegd voor politici die de moderniteit willen verdedigen. (Zwolle, 3-6-2002)

Yossi Beilin to announce new political party

Former Justice Minister Yossi Beilin will announce Monday the establishment of new political party, which will aim "to unite all leftist movements."
Beilin is set to make his announcement at a Tel Aviv conference of the "Run Beilin, Run" movement, which has been pushing for the former minister to re-enter political life after resigning from the Knesset during Ehud Barak's term as prime minister.
Beilin's announcement comes as something as a surprise to his colleagues on the political left, including Meretz chairman Yossi Sarid and Democratic Movement leader, Roman Bronfman, with whom Beilin has previously held talks aimed at establishing a joint movement. Secular Conversion - by Yossi Beilin

It is simply unimaginable that in the 21st Century, a time in which most of world Jewry is not religious, we should continue to grant certain religious establishments the right to define "who is a Jew." While it is true that significant differences between the streams of Judaism exist, it is also true that all of them retain an exclusive character. All are cautious regarding their number of conversions and all insist that the transition into the Jewish people be done through a process that is solely religious.
Many cases of conversion involve an agreed-upon lie. Most converts are in fact converting in order to marry a Jewish partner. They must convince the rabbis that their act is based on belief and that they will keep the commandments as Jews, while both the rabbis and most of the converts know that this is not the case. Those who do not want to lie choose not to convert, even if in some spiritual sense they identify with the Jewish people and heritage.
Were Judaism only a religion, no one would question the rabbinic monopoly, and the argument would merely revolve around recognizing the various Jewish streams. However, since Judaism is also "something more," there is no reason for rabbis to only lead people to this "something more" via a religious route within a religious monopoly. Judaism is also a nation, and an existential culture. Many Jews, maybe most Jews, are either atheists or agnostics, yet no one questions their Jewishness. Why is someone like me allowed to be an agnostic Jew while a convert to Judaism is not? Why must a non-Jewish atheist or agnostic go to a rabbi in order to become a Jewish atheist or agnostic? Commentaar: Wie het bovenstaande betoog van Yoshi Beilin goed leest zal ontdekken dat hier op een heel voorzichtige wijze wordt gepleit het aanbrengen van het onderscheid 'staat-kerk' in Israel.
In een situatie waarin de meerderheid van zich 'jood' noemende mensen niet meer op een traditionele wijze religieus is moet het volgens Beilin absurd genoemd worden dat de bepaling van het wel - of niet jood zijn wordt overgelaten aan het religieuze establishment in Israel.
De absurditeit van die situatie is daarom zo schril omdat Israel zichzelf een joodse staat noemt. Dat wil dus zeggen dat elke inwoner van Israel, ook wanneer hij een gruwelijke godslasterende heiden is, de rabbijn als zijn of haar hoogste baas behoort te beschouwen - de instantie die bepaalt of je het recht heb jezelf een 'goede burger' te noemen.
Yoshi Beilin durft niet op een duidelijke wijze de stelling uit te spreken dat de losmaking van het begrip 'jood' uit de greep van de religie in feite betekent dat de joodse staat ophoudt het exclusieve bezit van de religie te zijn, zodat de weg wordt vrijgemaakt voor de integratie van alle leden van de bevolking in een natie die niet joods is, maar joods-christelijk-humanistisch. En toch is dat de logische conclusie die uit zijn betoog voortvloeit.
In feite hanteren we in het Westen die tegenstelling ook. We spreken over een joods-christelijk-humanistische beschaving, maar we zullen er niet over peinzen onze naties religieuze naties te noemen.
Yoshi Beilin is nog niet zo ver dat hij het seculiere begrip 'jood' om wil zetten in het begrip 'Israelisch staatsburger', dat op elk inwoner van Israel kan worden toegepast. Een niet-joodse atheist of agnosticus kan als Israelisch staatsburger deel uitmaken van een gemeenschap die jodendom, christendom, islam en humanisme als uitgangspunten voor het morele denken kiest.
Het is die vorm van jood-zijn die hem aanspreekt. Hij wil zich vrij kunnen voelen in zijn eigen land. Dat land kan een joodse traditie hebben, maar die traditie mag niet dwingend worden opgelegd aan alle inwoners.
Het begrip 'joods' zoals hij het als agnostische jood opvat verwijst niet naar religie, maar naar beschavingsgeschiedenis. Die geschiedenis is niet moreel van karakter. Daarom kunnen mensen van alle gezindten er zich in herkennen, omdat beschavingsgeschiedenis samen met anderen wordt gemaakt. Die niet religieuze geschiedenis kent hoogtepunten en gruwelijke dieptepunten. Maar juist vanwege die gruwelijke dieptepunten is contact met anderen mogelijk. Religie weigert veelal de beschavende werking van dieptepunten te erkennen. Het kwaad wordt gezien als een zinloos gegeven waaruit geen lessen kunnen en mogen worden getrokken. Humanisten (mensen die religie zien als een deel van de beschaving en niet als de culminatie ervan) weten dat ze niet beter of slechter zijn dan anderen en dat betekent dat ze bereid zijn lessen te trekken uit eigen fouten en tekortkomingen. Het is die geesteshouding die de weg vrijmaakt voor een moderne wereld waarin moraal kan ontstaan.

More War Is Not the Route to Israeli Security

The job of the Israeli government is to ensure the safety of its citizens. A war with the Palestinian Authority would ensure exactly the opposite outcome. It is easy for many Israelis to cling to the belief that former Prime Minister Ehud Barak offered Yasir Arafat "everything" while Arafat answered him with the intifada. And indeed, Mr. Barak did make a considerable peace offer in July 2000 at the Camp David summit. However, it must also be remembered that by December 2000, Mr. Arafat had agreed to the Clinton peace plan, as did Mr. Barak. Both men did so with reservations, and this act of compromise occurred at the height of the intifada. But instead of accepting the successful talks that had taken place between Israel and the Palestinians at Taba in Egypt in January 2001 as a way toward a final settlement, Ariel Sharon decided, after being elected prime minister, to terminate the peace process. He has never concealed his opinion that the Oslo process was wrong. So he brought it to an end with the help of Shimon Peres and the Labor Party. (Yossi Beilin, New York Times, 30-3-2002)

Yossi Beilin, a former minister of justice in Barak’s government and a leading “dove,” is neither a minister nor a member of the Knesset, but rather a sort of “semi-prophet” on the left of the Labor Party. He calls for an Israeli withdrawal from the Occupied Territories and the creation of a Palestinian state, and he has bitterly attacked Peres and Ben-Eliezer for not quitting Sharon’s coalition government. He is also one of the few who still believes that Arafat is the Palestinian leader with whom Israel should negotiate. Beilin’s argument is that, whatever the politicians may say, a vast majority of Israelis still believe in peace and accept the Saudi initiative of full peace for full withdrawal. ...Some months later (november 1967) there was ar dialogue of sorts between Prime Minister Eshkol and me. I was making almost daily speeches in the Knesset about the need to set up a Palestinian state, literally speaking to the wall. One day I had a run-in with the Prime Minister. I told the Knesset that I had personally canvassed the views of all the prominent leaders on the West Bank, and all of them had told me that they prefer a Palestinian state to a return to Jordan. Eshkol dismissed my speech out of hand. But on the next day his advisor for Arab affairs, Moshe Sasson, called and told me that the Prime Minister has asked him to meet with me, in order to find out on what information I based my assertion.
The meeting took place in the Knesset on November 19, 1967. We compared notes. Afterwards Sasson submitted his report to the Prime Minister and sent me a copy. The salient passage says: “There was no basic difference of opinion between my assessment and that of Mr. Avnery…(but) the question is whether the Arabs want such a state if it does not include (East) Jerusalem. Since we are not willing to give back Arab Jerusalem, the whole debate about a Palestinian state becomes an abstract and useless one. Neither I nor Mr. Avnery could point to one of the West Bank leaders who would be willing to support the idea of a Palestinian state without Jerusalem.”

Waarom wordt Jeruzalem heilig verklaard?

Jezus van Nazareth werd in de stad Jeruzalem aan het kruis genageld omdat hij de vrijheid van het onafhankelijke individu boven het onderdrukkende collectivisme van het joods-religieuze establishment plaatste.
Jezus had zijn leven kunnen redden wanneer hij de autoriteit van het Joodse Sanhedrin (raad van opperpriesters) had erkend. Hij weigerde. "De waarheid ligt niet bij jullie - de waarheid ligt bij mij. Ik kan mijzelf niet dwingen leugens te gaan vertellen, alleen maar omdat jullie Opperpriester willen zijn."
Jezus was een man van principes. De waarheid stond in zijn denken centraal. Alles wat in zijn ogen leugenachtig en hypocriet was verafschuwde hij.
Jezus was geen heilige man - hij was een vrije man. Het evangelie laat ons overduidelijk zien dat zijn optreden gezien werd als een bespotting van alles wat de joodse priesters als heilig beschouwden. Jezus was een eenling die niemands bezit wilde zijn, en die juist daarom, omdat hij weigerde zichzelf uit te leveren aan de macht van de priesters, aan het kruis gestorven is.
Amerika wordt momenteel geregeerd door mensen die de eenling-hatende priestercultuur boven het vrije, onafhankelijke individu plaatsen.
De priester bewondert het vrije individu niet, de priester aanbidt het idool - de afgod. Daarom kun je Mozes geen priester noemen, omdat hij de joden geen idool aanbood maar een geheel van regels en wetten, die verwijzen naar het verlangen het primitieve godsgeloof aan banden te leggen. Niet het idool is belangrijk, maar de menselijke orde. Wetgeving is daar op gericht: niet op het scheppen van chaos en onzin, maar op het scheppen van orde en zin.
In Israel hebben de joodse priesters een immens beeld opgebouwd, dat de weerspiegeling van God moet zijn: de joodse stad Jeruzalem.
God is in hun verduisterde ogen niet het verlangen naar een rechtvaardige, zinvolle orde, nee God is een heilig verklaarde, tot idool uitgeroepen joodse stad. Dat is de waarheid die momenteel verdedigd wordt door de machtigste natie van de wereld, een schijnheilige natie, die pretendeert de belangen van het vrije individu te verdedigen.

Hoe kun je als vrijheidslievende, christelijke natie God vereenzelvigen met een dode, geestloze stapel stenen? Waar haal je de moed vandaan God (die zich heeft gemanifesteerd in je eigen vrijheidsverlangen) op zo'n afschuwelijke wijze belachelijk te maken? Wie heeft ooit het waanzinnige idee bedacht dat God gelijk moet worden gesteld aan een stad in het Midden-Oosten? En waarom plaats je tegenover het goddeloze priestersymbool dat de ontkenning is van de vrije mens niet je eigen vrijheidssymbool?
Bouw op de tempelberg een vrijheidsbeeld. Eer in de profeten het menselijke, zingevende vrijheidsverlangen. Hou op met buigen en knielen en het aanbidden van geestloze objecten en kijk omhoog naar de blauwe lucht, waartegen zich de contouren aftekenen van het enige symbool dat het waard is aanbeden te worden: het beeld dat de vrijheid van het onafhankelijke individu symboliseert.

The current mythology about the city's name and associations are typical examples. The "salem" or "shalim" in Jerusalem does not come from the word for "peace," as is circulated. "Shalim" is the god associated with the city's founding by the Canaanite Jebusites ("Uru-shalim," the city or foundation of the god Shalim, cited in ancient Egyptian texts). There are systematic efforts, however, to link Jerusalem with David (thus the recent Israeli "3000" anniversary celebrations). However, as Thomas L. Thompson has noted, there are three different biblical accounts involving the "conquest" of Jerusalem. The efforts to connect the city with David are intended to formalize connections between present Jews or Israelis and that idealized biblical community called "Israelites." The city's archaeological and other documentation, however, demonstrates actual habitation by the Jebusites about 5000 years ago. Even biblical scholars now acknowledge that the reported conquest by David did not result in any changes in population or religion. Others confirm that David never existed as a tribal chief-except in the huge realm of legend. What is called the "Tower of David" in Jerusalem (made into a showcase museum by Israel) has nothing to do with David. Meron Benvenisti, among others, has deflated the mythic creations about the Tower, which was built in more recent centuries. Jerusalem has no trace at all of a person called "King David." Hamas says no to offer by Arafat

The militant group Hamas on Monday rejected Yasser Arafat's offer to join his Cabinet, refusing to ally itself with Palestinian leadership that is widely criticized as corrupt, unpopular and ineffective.
Arafat invited Hamas and other radical groups into his Cabinet to try to broaden the political base of his Palestinian Authority and to gain control over movements that have vowed to continue sending suicide bombers against Israel.
"We don't think the participation of Hamas in the new Cabinet would add to the Palestinian cause," Hamas spokesman Ismail Haniya said.

Hamas, which envisions creating an Islamic state in the West Bank and Gaza, boycotted the first Palestinian elections in 1994, when Arafat was elected president of the Palestinian Authority. But Haniya said Hamas would take part in municipal elections that Arafat has called for as early as later this year. Hamas also announced last month that it supports the peace initiative from Saudi Arabia, which calls for Israel to withdraw to its pre-1967 borders in exchange for formal recognition by Arab governments that have not made peace with the Jewish state. Een joodse en een islamitische staat

Liberty is enlightening the world Je kunt je afvragen wat het grote, trotse Amerikaanse vrijheidsbeeld voorstelt in een wereld waarin verblinde ideologen een joodse en een islamitische staat willen vestigen.
Beide entiteiten zijn tegen het vrije individu gerichte collectivistische entiteiten en daarmee een ontkenning van de Amerikaanse vrijheidsgedachte.
Jezelf zulke vragen stellen wordt als zijnde 'niet moreel' veroordeeld. Je moet niet denken. Je moet geloven...
Maar wat ze ook beweren en hoe je het ook wendt of keert: wanneer je twee collectivistische ideologieën bij elkaar optelt hou je alleen maar doodgeslagen enkelingen over.

Mubarak spins a vision

During the three meetings Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has scheduled with U.S. President George Bush, Mubarak will try to persuade his host to adopt an original Egyptian idea: declaring a Palestinian state before the start of negotiations.
Such a state would be declared on all the territory Israel conquered in 1967, after which negotiations on borders, Jerusalem, the refugees and other outstanding issues would be conducted between two sovereign states rather than between a Palestinian Authority and a state.

Mubarak will offer Bush two safety nets for Israel. The first stems from the Saudi initiative, which was accepted by the Arab summit in Beirut, under which the Arab states would establish full relations with Israel in exchange for full withdrawal. The second would be a continued Arab effort to persuade the Palestinians to take real action against terrorism.

Erkennen dat je een bezetter bent

Jarenlang wordt er gepraat. Duizenden intellectuelen over de hele wereld zitten kromgebogen over hun al dan niet elektronische schrijfmachientjes en toch is de oplossing van het conflict waarover ze zo verhit praten en denken doodsimpel: Israel's erkenning dat het een bezettende macht is - of, in morele termen uitgedrukt: Israel's wil een morele schuldbekentenis af te leggen:
"Wij hebben grove fouten gemaakt".
Het probleem van joodse ideologen is dat ze zichzelf zien als de vertegenwoordigers van het eeuwige, onveranderlijke goede. De jood is geboren voor het morele leiderschap. Wanneer bij faalt op moreel gebied, dan is aangetoond dat zijn goddelijke uitverkiezing in feite op helemaal niets is gebaseerd.
In de ogen van niet-joden is het een kwestie van niks. De mens wordt niet geboren als moreel leider. het is ook volstrekt onzinnig om iemand moreel leiderschap op te dringen, zonder jezelf af te vragen of de betrokken persoon daarvoor wel de juiste kwaliteiten bezit, zonder ook jezelf af te vragen of de betrokken persoon überhaupt moreel leider wil zijn.
Daar komt bij dat moraal niet een geheimzinnige eigenschap is die via genen aan mensen wordt doorgegeven. Moraal is in de eerste plaats weten ontwikkelen. Mensen die weten afwijzen zullen nooit geweten kunnen ontwikkelen. Elke werkelijke moraal is gebouwd op kennis. Domme mensen zullen altijd onjuiste oordelen vellen.

Het blijft een onbegrijpelijke zaak dat de joodse gemeenschap zolang heeft vastgehouden aan de theologische opvatting dat moraal een geschenk is dat God aan de joden heeft gegeven. Alle ellende in het Midden-Oosten vloeit daar uit voort. Israël moet een lichtend voorbeeld zijn voor de joodse gemeenschap (voor de hele wereld zelfs..), en omdat Israël niet in staat is een lichtend voorbeeld te zijn wordt geprobeerd de onmacht en de onkunde te verbergen achter een façade van leugens en geweld.
Joodse rabbijnen kijken zalvend en huichelend toe. Zij willen de handen in onschuld wassen, maar dat recht hebben ze niet. Zij noemen zichzelf 'geestelijke leiders', maar wanneer je Ariel Sharon en zijn rechtse vrienden ziet aanmodderen en klungelen als een stel onwetende kleine kinderen die met schepjes en emmertjes zijn afgedaald in een morele zandbak, dan voel je de neiging in jezelf opkomen die zogenaamde geestelijke leiders een immense kluit morele bagger naar het schijnheilige hoofd te gooien.
Arme misleidde kinderen die door hun schijnheilige vaders in de steek gelaten zijn - zo zou ik de rechtse joden in Israël willen noemen. Zij zitten nu op de blaren en de huichelaars die beter hadden moeten weten steken hun schijnheilige hoofden in een bak met zand.

A brief history of the missed opportunity

A week after the end of the Six-Day War, which broke out 35 years ago, on June 5, 1967, Prime Minister Levi Eshkol met with Maki (Israel Communist Party) MK Moshe Sneh in Eshkol's Knesset offices. Even though Sneh had disassociated himself from the Zionist political establishment by joining Maki, the two were old friends going back to the 1940s, when Sneh was head of the Hagannah's national headquarters.
Sneh pleaded with Eshkol to declare immediately Israel's recognition of self-determination for the Arab Palestinian nation and recognition of its right to a state of its own alongside Israel. He spoke of an opportunity that would not return, to build a bridge to the people whom the Arab states had betrayed over and over again.
"I think there's a lot of political wisdom in what you're saying," Eshkol said, but then explained his political constraints. "If it was a different government, such initiatives might be possible. But I think it's impossible. If I reach out a hand, and no hand is returned in peace, then Abu Jilda and the terrorist will give me a petzele (slap) that will knock me off my chair. And who'll replace me? You already know."
Sneh knew the codes. "Abu Jilda" was Eshkol's nickname for Defense Minister Moshe Dayan. "The terrorist" was what he called the former head of the Etzel, Menachem Begin, head of the Herut party and a minister without portfolio...

.....on Pesach, 1968, at the Park Hotel in Hebron, a group of people backed by Allon, and led by Moshe Levinger, calling themselves Gush Emunim (Bloc of the Faithful), announced they would not be leaving the hotel after the seder. The settlement movement as we know it today was born.
Outside the hotel, Profesor Arielli and his associates, including Professors Yaacov Katz, Yaacov Talmon, and Dan Patenkin, held up placards denouncing the settlement. "No to annexation, yes to peace and security," the posters said. They regarded the Hebron settlers - for whom Allon would later build Kiryat Arba - as the first signs of an outbreak of messianic hysteria. Het sadistische zwijgen van rechts

In that context, Israel's own role in the ongoing crisis cannot be ignored, leading to the conclusion that as long as the prime minister continues with his empty policies, the terrorist organizations will continue dictating the agenda for the entire region." Je kunt je afvragen welk kwaad groter is: het sadistische zwijgen van mensen die zichzelf 'goed' noemen, of de sadististische acties van mensen die het grote, sadistische zwijgen van de ander willen doorbreken.
Palestijnse verzetsgroepen eisen de terugtrekking van Israel uit de bezette gebieden. Het recht eist dat een bezetter zichzelf bezetter noemt en het recht eist ook dat een bezetter wordt bestraft wanneer hij weigert gestolen goed terug te geven. Dat is de rechtlijnige werkelijkheidinterpretatie van de verzetsgroepen en strikt juridisch gezien hebben ze het gelijk aan hun zijde.
George Bush en rechts Amerika (de morele meerderheid die jaar in jaar uit hamert op herstel van recht en orde in het land) hanteren dezelfde rechtlijnige principes (denk aan Afghanistan: "there will be no deal"), zodat het een volstrekt onbegrijpelijke zaak is dat zij de aanvallen van de verzetsgroepen 'terreuraanvallen' noemen.
Jenin wordt doodgezwegen De weigering onrecht 'onrecht' te noemen is de ergste vorm van sadisme die er is. Wat dat betreft is Amerika de meest sadistische natie van de wereld, omdat het zijn geweldige macht gebruikt om onrecht goed te praten. Iets anti-morelers is niet denkbaar!
Waar dus de verzetstrijders gelijk hebben, daar is het de plicht van mensen die een rechtvaardige oplossing zoeken de mensen die ongelijk hebben ervan te overtuigen dat ze schuld moeten bekennen. Wie fouten heeft gemaakt zal moeten boeten, dat is een fundamenteel element van ons rechtssysteem. Je kunt en mag mensen die schuldig zijn niet 'goed' noemen. Dan ben je een sadistische rechtsverkrachter die de slachtoffers op een gruwelijke wijze met kwellingen achtervolgt, alleen maar omdat ze weigeren te sjacheren en te sjoemelen met zaken die je zelf heilig hebt verklaard.
Jaar in jaar uit hebben eerlijke mensen Amerika duidelijk gemaakt dat rechtvaardigheid niet kan bestaan in een wereld waarin met twee maten gemeten wordt. Het recht is er voor iedereen, ook voor diegenen die rechteloos worden gemaakt door bevriende mensen die op een krankzinnige, meedogenloze en volstrekt onrechtvaardige wijze machtig willen zijn in een wereld die niet de hunne is.
Recht mag niet zwijgen. Nooit. Wie het recht monddood wil maken laat zien dat hij een rechteloos monster is. Dat rechteloze monster moet vernietigd worden. Alleen dan kunnen redelijke krachten het winnen van de krachten van wraak en vergelding.

Car Bombing Kills 13 Soldiers, Three Civilians

The Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for a car bombing near Haifa. The bombing was executed by the Jerusalem Brigades, Islamic Jihad’s armed wing. The movement claimed that the bombing was an act of retaliation for the killing of hundreds of Palestinians in recent months.
Israeli police reports said that a car exploded when a bus filled with soldiers passed by it. The explosion was described as "huge", killing at least 13 soldiers, 3 civilians and wounding 50 more. The condition of 10 of the wounded is serious.

Sharon to Peres:
"Don't worry about American pressure; we control America"

According to Israel radio (in hebrew) Kol Yisrael, Peres warned Sharon Wednesday that refusing to heed incessant American requests for a cease-fire with the Palestinians would endanger Israeli interests and "turn the US against us." At this point, a furious Sharon reportedly turned toward Peres, saying "every time we do something you tell me Americans will do this and will do that. I want to tell you something very clear, don't worry about American pressure on Israel, we, the Jewish people control America, and the Americans know it."
The radio said Peres and other cabinet ministers warned Sharon against saying what he said in public because "it would cause us a public relations disaster." (c) IAP News, 3-10-2001

Amerika en de Rechtse Israel-Lobby

Today, between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean, ten million people are locked in a bitter struggle over land and destiny. Nearly half of the population between the river and the sea are native Palestinians. Their desperate cry for liberty is not only ignored by America, but tens of billions in United States tax revenues are spent to assist their tormentors.
We have an American policy in the Middle East that serves the constituency of a third party that no American has ever voted for. It is an ethnic constituency that includes lunatic elements with visions of an apocalyptic end to our one common planet.
In the aftermath of the criminal assaults on America, we are long due for an investigation of the real cause of all our troubles with radicalized elements in the Middle East. Why is our Congress investigating the CIA, the FBI and the INS, when the real focus should be on the State Department and a catastrophic foreign policy that amounted to the appeasement of a belligerent foreign state run by war criminals? Why do we have an Israeli Lobby so powerful that it acts like a major political party and constantly tampers with our foreign policy to align it with the dictates of the Likudniks in Tel Aviv? What vital American national interest is served by the continued repression of the Palestinian people?
The deadly assaults against our shores on 911 could certainly have been avoided. But the notion that any American government would have sanctioned such an assault or been lax in attempting to stop it is a bit off the wall. Yet, the fact remains that both the Clinton and Bush administrations were arrogant enough to take foreign policy risks to appease the constituency of the Israeli Lobby, the phantom third party that has come to dominate public discourse on foreign policy. It was common knowledge that there would be a price to pay for the Gulf War, the Saudi military bases, the murderous economic blockade of Iraq and the humiliating occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, East Jerusalem and the Golan. Waarom aanbidden wij Rechts Israel?

Het is een bikkelhard feit dat het Westen nu al tientallen jaren lang het Rechtse Extremisme aanbidt. We praten, we schrijven, we denken (denken we) en we winden ons op over mensen die in onze ogen 'rechtse extremisten' zijn - en terwijl we dat alles doen zit in Amerika het Rechtse Extremisme, omringd door een menigte volmaakt imbeciele militairen, op een reusachtig grote troon.
Juist omdat het Rechtse Extremisme op de troon zit noem ik mijzelf 'anarchistisch schrijver' (anarchisme valt elke vorm van machtsmisbruik aan) en weiger ik deel uit te maken van wat men in Holland noemt 'onze cultuur'.
Je bent geen cultuurmaker wanneer je weigert het Rechtse Extremisme aan te vallen. Daarom deugde de Nederlandse politicus Pim Fortuyn ook niet. Fortuyn was een opportunist die van twee walletjes wilde eten. Hij wist dat het beleid van Amerika niet deugde (noemde Madeline Albright, minister van buitenlandse zaken onder Bill Clinton, op een zeer terechte wijze 'een oorlogszuchtig wijf') maar weigerde desondanks openlijk het door Israel gesteunde Rechtse Extremisme te veroordelen. "Sharon", zo stelde hij, "is mijn beste vriend".
Die dubbelzinnigheid beheerst momenteel heel het Westerse denken. Amerika bouwt reusachtige verdedigingsschermen - wil van zichzelf een kapitalistische, door veiligheidspolitie geregeerde Sovjet-Unie maken - en terwijl dat alles gebeurt praten en schrijven de kletsers in ons land over 'cultuur'.
Het ligt voor de hand dat mensen die het slachtoffer zijn van dat primitieve machtsdenken vol minachting neerblikken op ons.
Zij weten dat wij weinig meer zijn dan kleine onnozele kinderen, die denken alles beter te weten, zonder dat ze zich er bewust van zijn dat ze nu al tientallen jaren lang op de knieën liggen voor een Rechts-extremistische God die alles wat waarheidlievend is wil onderdrukken - omdat hij de vleesgeworden leugen is.
Wanneer die Rechts-extremistische God ons leven niet beheerste waren anarchisten en vrijdenkers vrije, door iedereen gerespecteerde burgers in onze 'cultuur', maar vrijdenkers en anarchisten zijn helemaal niet vrij. Pim Fortuyn zag dat heel goed in. Hij wist dat je alleen maar Minister-president kunt worden wanneer je Ariel Sharon als God aanbidt. Daarom noemde hij Arafat een bandiet en Sharon een goede man.
George Bush - momenteel de minst machtige man van de wereld - is het volledig met Pim Fortuyn eens.
Liberty is enlightening the world "Ik word gecontroleerd - en dat is goed", zo luidt zijn boodschap aan de mensheid: "Wie niet gecontroleerd wil worden is slecht".
Dat hij gecontroleerd wordt door mensen die gedurende de Tweede Wereldoorlog het slachtoffer werden van een aan grootheidswaanzin lijdende massamoordenaar bewijst niet dat mensen die dat feit constateren 'antisemieten' zijn, het bewijst alleen maar dat een slachtoffer net zo gek en gevaarlijk kan zijn als de dader die op het kerkhof ligt.
We mogen de Palestijnen (zelfs de extremisten onder hen) dankbaar zijn dat ze de moeite nemen te vechten voor de vrijheid. Zij voeren een moreel gevecht dat wij niet durven te voeren - een gevecht dat de wereld naar de waarheid leiden moet.

Geef mij degenen die uitgeput zijn, de armen, de samengepakte massa's die vrij willen ademen, het erbarmelijke afval van de volle kusten. Stuur ze, de daklozen, die door de storm naar mij toe worden geslingerd. Ik hef mijn lamp omhoog naast de gouden deur.
